Peter Allen

Writer

IMDB

For the past twenty-five years writer/director Peter Allen has been considered by many to be the “best kept secret in Hollywood”. In that time frame he has quietly built a solid resume in the fields of animation, music videos and feature films.

Peter Allen studied film production and photography and received a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. He stared his professional career as a freelance photographer in the Baltimore / Washington area and soon became a photojournalist on the staff of the Kansas City Star – the largest daily newspaper in a five state Mid-West area.

Allen moved to Los Angeles and formed New Genesis Productions an animation and visual effects company that produced content for commercials, films and music concerts. Clients and productions included PBS network, Carl Sagan’s “Cosmos”, Levis Jeans, Motown Records, Untied Artists Records, Parliament-Funkadelic, Solar Records and Total Experience Records.

The connection to the music industry promoted a shift into producing and directing music videos. Allen has directed close to a hundred and produced another forty. Among the artists directed by Allen are Stevie Wonder, Rick James, Smokey Robinson, Miki Howard, Chubb Rock, Klymaxx, Shalamar, Kenny “Baby Face” Edmonds and The Whispers.

The music video production morphed into feature film production.  Choosing to focus on screenwriting, Allen was the uncredited lead writer on the #1 at the box office teen dance film, “You Got Served”. He then hit big with the 2010 release of “Takers” which was also #1 at the box office in its debut weekend. The fast paced heist film was produced by Screen Gems and featured an all-star cast that included Idris Elba, Paul Walker, Matt Dillon, Chris Brown, Zoe Saldana, Michael Ealy, Hayden Christensen and T.I. Harris. The movie went on to surpass the $100 million mark. Allen has also written original screenplays for the independent features “KLA$H” and “A Foreign Land”. He is also a producer on the timely documentary about substance abuse, “The Road Back”.

Allen currently has several projects in development including That Day and the indie production that he will also direct, “One Last Pimpout”.
